Write the vision, and make it plain… Habakkuk 2:2
On March 23, 1978, a group of thirteen ardent believers met at the home of Rev. Calvin Marshall for the purpose of organizing a church. On that day, a vision came to fruition; New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church was established in Los Banos, California. Shortly thereafter, Rev. Marshall was called to lead the New Canaan flock and was officially installed as the first pastor of the church.
For the initial six months, the congregation met at the home of Pastor Marshall. Over the next few years, the church held services at various locations throughout the city including Calvary Baptist Church.
In the earlier part of 1981, New Canaan purchased a plot of land at 424 N. Mercy Springs Road in Los Banos, California. In May 1981, the land was dedicated to God, ground was broken, and construction began. The church building was constructed wholly by volunteers and was completed in September of 1983, at which time the building was dedicated to God. The congregation took tenancy in October of 1983.
Throughout the years, New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church has been led by awesome men of God who have each carried out the vision during their appointed season.
Of the original thirteen founding members, three have remained immovable: Mother Jettie Marshall (deceased), Mother Carrie Louise Brown, and Mother Zella M. Marshall Brown.
God has abundantly blessed New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church. The church has continued to grow in both spirit and in number. New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church has had a truly rich history and we look forward to a very glorious future through ministry in Christ Jesus.
